Newest tobacco fear reeks of lies

Apparently the secondhand-smoke demons aren't scaring enough people... because in their latest desperate move, the Health Nazis have conjured up a new tobacco monster. They're calling it "thirdhand smoke."

That's right, folks. You can't make this stuff up.

A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences claims that smokers create toxic particles that linger long after their cigarette has been snuffed. The researchers are suggesting that smokers carry a little invisible cloud of these particles around with them wherever they go, kind of like that dust cloud that always follows Charlie Brown's friend Pig-Pen.

In other words, smokers are constantly contaminating everyone, everywhere, all the time with their filthy habit -- whether they're actually smoking around anyone or not.

I'm sure you can see where this is going. More rules, more laws, and less personal freedom -- all in the name of health. And sure enough, the researchers claim that the only solution is 100 percent smoke-free places. And to assure a victory, they're pulling out their ace in the hole: the children.

The scientists claim that since these particles linger on floors, walls and furniture, children who crawl around touching everything are in grave danger. Never mind that they can't present a single child -- not one! -- who's ever been harmed by this supposed health risk.

It's pure bunk designed to scare more people away from the healthy use of tobacco.

Don't believe a word of it. The truth is, smoking can save your life -- and I've got all the science to prove it.   ---- from Douglas Md

Let the truth set you free -true story about clever lawyer anf consequences

Lawyer VS. Insurance
This is the best lawyer story of the year, decade, and probably the century. A Charlotte, NC, lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars,: then insured them against fire among other things. Within a month having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires." The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason: that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The lawyer sued .. and won!

In delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The Judge stated, nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable fire, and was obligated to pay the claim. Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the rare cigars lost in the "fires."

NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

This is a true story and was the 1st place winner in the recent Criminal Lawyers Award Contest.  This proves that every action should be assessed for its consequence.

Share the work ,share the glory, share the rewards -we are all second fiddles to God's will and the work purpose

"We share and share alike—those who go to battle and those who guard the equipment [supplies]."

A reality life check in fact shows that this often does not happen .  Have you ever noticed that, when someone works real hard to build a product , group, a class, or an organization from scratch, and when it is up and running successfully, how someone else wants to take it over and run it—and sometimes ends up killing it? The brass ring is easy to tarnish without some spit and polish.

I've seen it happen in all groups , churches ,organizations and businesses more than once. I've had it happen to various  support groups that I started . .When I returned after a extended trip, it had been taken over by one of the members . . . and soon died.

"An admirer once asked Leonard Bernstein, celebrated orchestra conductor, what was the hardest instrument to play. He replied without hesitation: 'Second fiddle. I can always get plenty of first violinists, but to find one who plays second violin with as much enthusiasm, now that's a problem. And yet if no one plays second, we have no harmony.'"2

In King David's day some of those who went to battle wanted to keep for themselves all the spoils of that which was conquered. They didn't want to share the glory or the spoils with those who stayed behind the front lines and took care of the "stuff" (supplies and equipment). Short sighted greed often kills most deals as the logistic and popular support shrinks the in field army.

In God's economy, Christians will not be rewarded on the basis of his/her rank or position. Whether one is a church leader, Sunday school teacher, or janitor; the president of a company or the new kid working in the mail room—each will be rewarded on the basis of their being a faithful steward of the gifts and abilities with which he/she has been entrusted. What God is looking for to do his work on earth are second, third, and fourth fiddlers who are not seeking to glorify themselves but to serve God by serving others and thereby bring glory to God.
This is a true and real insight that has been proven true in history  The tipping point - Share your talents, share the work , ,share the glory friends and you and your undertaking or group will surely succeed

Poll finds Canadians want reform - Brantford Expositor - Ontario, CA

Beware of counterfeit people

Pharisees were the religious elite of Jesus' day. They knew the Bible cover to cover; that is, the Law and the Prophets (the Old Testament) as the New Testament hadn't been written then. They knew their doctrinal teachings by heart. They had all the outward trappings of religiosity . . . but for many of them it was an outward show. Furthermore, they loved their doctrines more than they loved people and used them to control people. Jesus not only knew the same Scriptures, but he was real and saw through these religious play-actors—and didn't mince words with them regarding their phoniness.

Sad to say, there is no shortage today of play-acting teachers, phony religious or political leaders, counterfeit Christians, and those who love their religion more than they love people—and use their religion to control people. In some countries some even use their religion to force people to convert to their religion and torture or kill those who fail to convert.

How predictable are you ? Love change Eh ... chuckle

Researcher: People are very predictable
BOSTON (UPI) -- People's travel habits are so predictable they can be accurately calculated in advance up to 93 percent of the time, says a Boston physicist.

Chaoming Song, a Northeastern University physics doctoral student, said cellphone analysis showed how predictable people are.

"The most surprising thing to us is the lack of variability in predictability across the population, meaning that most all the users have same degree of predictability," regardless of their gender, age, or language spoken, Song said on the LiveScience Web site.

Song is lead author of a study published in the journal Science. Song and colleagues at Harvard University and China's Chengdu University of Technology tracked the movements of 50,000 anonymous European cellphone users over three months every time the users received a call or text message.

They found most users stayed within 6 miles of their home, while the most predictable users stayed within 2 1/2 miles, making an average of one phone call every 2 hours.

They also found the likelihood the phone users would be at their No. 1 most-visited location was 70 percent.

"So at any point during the day, if the scientists were to predict a participant was at this popular spot, they'd be correct 70 percent of the time," LiveScience said.

Frequent travelers were no less predictable than homebodies, the study found.

Participants were somewhat less predictable on weekends and when they were traveling to and from work or on their lunch break -- but they were still predictable.

The findings could help with traffic and disease control, Song and his colleagues write in their paper.

"At a more fundamental level, they also indicate that, despite our deep-rooted desire for change and spontaneity, our daily mobility is, in fact, characterized by a deep-rooted regularity."

Spring is in the air -and it is a time of renewal

Spring is in the air –the time for renewal and planting is near

Seed some kindness and good deeds and watch it grow your happiness and success

There is no doubt that a constructive life cycle of doing good helps to create a better world.

Good deeds and playing positive actions forward are ways to seed or plant seeds of goodwill that will grow and bear fruit down the road. One of the best things about seeding, ‘good’ , is that it makes you feel good. Doing a thoughtful deed for someone else opens your heart and fills it with warmth. You don't have to be rich or powerful to plant seeds of kindness. All it takes is a willingness to look out for opportunities to help others.

Acts of kindness can start with just simple things, such as a smile for the harried grocery clerk or holding the door for a tired mother, preoccupied with her little ones. Or you can take it a step further and offer help to people in need. Perhaps someone you know could use a heart-to-heart discussion or an elderly person in your neighborhood needs help shopping or repairing something in the home. Spend a little time thinking about it, and I am sure some ideas will pop into your head.

If you want to do something on a larger scale, consider volunteering some time on a regular basis to benefit a specific group, such as children, older people, or the community in general. It doesn't really matter so much how you seed kindnesses as long as you are looking for opportunities to do so and then take advantage of them when you see the need.

It is true that, in the process of doing good for others, even if it is something small, we improve the lives of others, build better relationships and even improve our own lives. It's a win-win situation!

This is a constructive pep talk or gardening tip for your " new decade"  journey and to keep your positive momentum and renewal going

The Knights of Columbus and other community service groups always need volunteers for community projects if you do not have your own gardens of kindness to seed and nurture.

Take care. Be happy .be loving and get ready to smell the roses

Smiles on aging

Smiles are good energy that you should share freely

On Aging -

An older couple is lying in bed one morning, having just awakened from
a good night's sleep. He takes her hand and she responds, "Don't touch
me."
"Why not?" he asks.
She answers back, "Because I'm dead."
The husband says, "What are you talking about? We're both lying here
in bed together and talking to one another."
She says, "No, I'm definitely dead."

He insists, "You're not dead. What in the world makes you think you're dead?"
"Because I woke up this morning and nothing hurts."

-- Remember, once you get over the hill, you'll begin to pick up speed.
-- If it weren't for STRESS I'd have no energy at all.
-- Everyone has a photographic memory. Some, like me, just don't have any film.
-- I always know God won't give me more than I can handle but there are times I wish He didn't trust me quite so much.
-- Never be too open minded, your brains could fall out.
-- Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than
standing in a garage makes you a car.
-- If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the trip.
-- Some days are a total waste of makeup.
-- Middle age is when broadness of the mind and narrowness of the
waist change places.
-- Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.
-- Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks
before you need it.
-- Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a
mistake when you make it again.
-- By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.
-- Learn from the mistakes of others. Trust me .... you can't live
long enough to make them all yourself. I've tried!!

Renewal lessons from the Gunnery club

Lessons from the gunnery club ( members count and come through if motivated to do so )

We couldn't have pulled it off without the help of all the volunteers,
the donations and the musicians." The club, also known as the Brant Artillery Club, has faced tough
times over the last year and there's even been talk of selling the big building off.

Infighting prevailed, membership dropped, the club faced more than one
lawsuit and veterans who had been members for decades simply stopped
attending events
.

But on Sunday, old friends and former members were back to show their support.
Powell, a returning member bent on helping the old club to get back on
its feet, and a band of volunteers in white Gunners Club T-shirts that
proclaimed "We Will Survive!" were bustling as close to 400 people
moved through the club.

"See the smile on my face?" asked treasurer Rita Olmstead, a member
who had been suspended from the club last year, along with her husband
Jack
-----------------------
The club belongs to the members so they should get a full say in what
happens,"
said Rita Olmstead.Meanwhile, Powell was tallying some of the proceeds from the day.
Donations covered almost everything at the event meaning that the 382
tickets sold netted the group $3,820.

Throne Speech: Full Text
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Speech from the Throne officially opens every new session of
Parliament. The Speech sets out the broad goals and directions
of the government in power. It is given by Canada's Head of
State, the Queen, or, more usually, by her representative, the
Governor General. It is called the Speech from the Throne
because the Governor General reads it while sitting in the seat
in the Senate Chamber reserved for the Head of State or her
representative, as the head of Canada's system of executive
government. The Governor General reads the speech to a gathering
of Parliamentarians (Members of the House of Commons and
Senators) and others. Parliamentarians act as law-makers for
bills, or proposed laws, brought to Parliament for debate and
decision.

Proud to be Canadian

Proud and humble to be Canadian

CANADIANS
We never claimed to be perfect.
That means we've learned to be humble.
We say excuse me and I'm sorry…as well as please and thanks.

Even when its not our fault we apologize.
Sure one arm of the torch didn't rise,
But when the earthquake struck Haiti, Canadians raised their hands to say…"we'll help".

And ya, there is a fence around the torch,
But you can walk right up and shake hands with our prime minister and most famous Canadians.
We put Gretzky in the back of a pick up, in the rain, not surrounded by police…and he was okay.
And by the way... the great one is Canadian…and HE wasn't complaining!

We do have security at the games, of course, but most people don't even have a gun they have to leave at home.
The medals ARE under lock and key but our doors and our hearts are open to the world.
It has been pointed out that some buses broke down last week….but let's not overlook the fact that our banking system didn't.

We didn't get the "green ice maker" right this time….but we will, eventually.
Just like we did when we invented the zamboni.

Citius altius fortius...
If you don't reach higher how do you get faster and stronger.
Was the first quad jump perfect?

Should we not have given snowboarding to the world "in case" it didn't take off?
So big deal…one out of four torch arms didn't rise.  Good thing we had 3 more!  It's called contingency planning!

But remember…the Canadarm works every time…in outerspace….and insulin turned out to be okay.

We couldn't change the weather but maybe we can help stop the global warming.
We don't have the tax base of the US or the power of the Chinese but, per capita, we ponied up for some pretty kick-ass venues in the worst global recession ever.

Sure, some folks couldn't afford tickets but our health care is universal.
We have shown the world that we can raise our voices in celebration and song but moments later stand in silence to respect a tragic event...together..spontaneously…and unrehearsed
.
What's more,  we don't need permission from anyone to have a slam poet, fiddlers w piercings and a lesbian singer tell our story to the world while our multilingual female haitian- born, black head of state shares a box with her first nations equals.

We've shown the world that it doesn't always rain in Vancouver , that you can strive for excellence but not get hung up on perfection.
And we've learned what it feels like to be picked on by some no name newspaper guy and we don't have to take it lying down!
So the point is not the snow, or the hydraulics or a couple guys being 5 minutes late to a ceremony.

We know we're lucky that these are the biggest problems we had to deal with in the last couple weeks.

So take your cheap shots….Guardian newspaper and cynics of the world.
We're bigger and better than that.
What's more we're finally starting to believe it!
Do you believe?

Yes , I for one am proud to be Canadian
