Inspirational fact -what goes around comes around -pass it on

Go-Getters Who Give    This Zig Ziglar column was originally published in 2000
Zig Ziglar

.

Many years ago, in the moors of Scotland, a farmer named Fleming was working hard to support his family. One day, while he was out in his fields working, he heard a distinct cry for help coming from a nearby bog. Mr. Fleming dropped his tools and ran to the bog, where he saw a young lad mired to his waist in black muck. The youngster was screaming and struggling to free himself. The farmer jumped into the bog, saving the young lad from a horrible death.

Thinking no more about it, Mr. Fleming went on about his work. The next day, a beautiful carriage pulled up to the front of their modest cottage. Out stepped an elegantly dressed nobleman, who introduced himself as the father of the boy Mr. Fleming had saved. The man said, "I want to repay you for saving my son's life."

However, the farmer said he couldn't accept payment for what he did, which he said was only the right thing to do. At that moment, the farmer's young son walked up, and the nobleman asked the farmer if that was his son. Mr. Fleming replied, "Yes." And the nobleman said, "I'll make you a deal. Let me take your son and give him a good education. If he's like his father, he will grow up to be a man you can be proud of." The farmer agreed, and the son left his home and went with the nobleman to receive an education.

Later, the son, whose name was Alexander, finished his education and graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School in London. He went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the man who discovered penicillin. Many years later, the son of the nobleman who put Alexander Fleming through school fell gravely ill with pneumonia. He was near death's door, but was saved by a new drug called "penicillin."

You probably have guessed that the nobleman was Lord Randolph Churchill. His son was Sir Winston Churchill. The old saying that "bread cast upon the waters often returns buttered" was certainly true in this case.

I'm not even mildly hinting that when you do something for someone else, the story will have an ending as dramatic as this one. However, what Mr. Fleming did was save a life, and any life has enormous value. He did it without thinking, without any motive other than to save the young boy's life. He graciously accepted the education for his son, because that was for his son's benefit.

The rest of the story is that Lord Randolph Churchill felt a lot better about the transaction because he had a chance to express his deep gratitude in a very real way. This is a classic example of my oft-quoted statement that you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want. I'm certain Mr. Fleming did not have that in mind when he rushed to the aid of young Winston Churchill, but nevertheless, the application is perfect.

The same applies when you give a person in need a word of encouragement. An act of kindness, a helping hand to a youth in trouble, an encouraging word to someone who has lost his or her job can mean a world of difference to that person. There is nothing quite like encouraging people in their struggles through life.

Interestingly enough, research shows that those who get involved in local projects like cleaning up a neighborhood, serving in a soup kitchen, participating with Habitat for Humanity in building homes for the homeless, and so on, are so energized in the process that they end up being more successful in their chosen professions. Now, as newscaster Paul Harvey would say, that's "the rest of the story."

Truth or lies -who will perform for you personally ,the Knights or Brantford - the election is tomorrow please vote

 Truth or Lies?   Should you vote your Brother Knights in for the next 4 years in Brantford - Brothers Woodburn and Holle

"Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts."1

The first mate on a ship decided to celebrate an occasion with a "little" stowed away rum. Unfortunately, he got drunk and was still drunk the next morning.

The captain saw him drunk and when the first mate was sober, showed him the following entry in the ship's log: "The first mate was drunk today."

"Captain, please don't let that stay in the log," the mate said. "This could add months or years to my becoming a captain myself."

"Is what I wrote true?" asked the captain, already knowing the answer.

"Yes, its true." the mate said.

"Then if it is true it has to go in the log. That's the rule. If it's true, it goes into the log, end of discussion," said the captain sternly.

Weeks later, it was the first mate's turn to make the log entries. So the first mate wrote: "The ship seems in good shape. The Captain was sober today."2

Jokes aside, people can make things say or appear to be whatever they want them to say or be. The reality is that we see things not the way they are but the way we are. And the more untruthful (dishonest) we are with ourselves, the more we will distort all other truth, including God's truth, to make it match our perception of reality and to have it say what we want it to say. In other words we exchange the truth for a lie.

Not all, but many politicians are masters of deceit. They pull things out of context and twist them to appear what they are not. They make promises they cannot keep. They accuse political opponents of not fixing problems that they themselves have no way of fixing—all to gain votes. On the news this week the governor of one state was blaming another politician for insufficient jobs in her state. I would like to have asked her what she was doing about the problem in her state and why didn't she fix it. Far too many politicians have become unbelievable. What we need today, as another has said, are statesmen, not politicians.

Of even more series and damaging consequences are those created by the many today who twist God's Word to say what they want it to say. They call abortion pro-choice. They say the acceptance of homosexuality and gay marriage is a new work God is doing among us! They seek to destroy the very foundations that make a country great. In all of these they have exchanged "God's truth for a lie." If we sow the wind, as God's truth warns, we will reap the whirlwind.

Only the truth will ever set us free.   ( Innes)

Re: October 25

Impressive food for thought and thanks for sharing this :

Bears out some of the frustration that I have heard from people that are doing the paying , not getting heard or getting the services they believe that they paid for -as gleaned from  my grassroots march around the ward .

From my video adaption of Nancy Sinatra -These " Holle" boots are made for walking . Many are unhappy with the present council situation and want the following changed:

"  You keep lying, when you oughta be truthin'
and you keep losin' when you oughta not bet.
You keep samin' when you oughta be changin'.
Now what's right is right, but you ain't been right yet."

In context to the video - council has been a out of control disconnected Kill bulldozer ( with less finess or justification then heemeyer) of opportunity ,private developments by over regulating ,and micro managing anything that moves to generate staff driven fees and revenue --or that at least is what many people feel and believe. They are unhappy and want actionable change -not more promises of the same  .

The new council challenge will be ,in my opinion, to reverse this perception/or fact with some much needed business intelligence  and reopen the opportunity for private industry to compete successfully in the process of real growth .Let us ,(we-together ) " create a win-win situation in Brantford/Brant/6-Nations) where Bell could once again invent the telephone here" with no strings and self serving conditions attached.

Your help is needed with this challenge -many hands and minds make for timely solutions

Interesting food for thought on property rights

Private Property Is Nothing To Fear  www.fcpp.org
An economic study of successful First Nations is being held in suspicion through erroneous thinking about the notion of private property. Aboriginal policy analyst Joseph Quesnel looks at some common fallacies held about indigenous peoples in Canada and the notion of private property. He argues the debate about the appropriateness of property as an economic development tool should be free of misinformation.

Freedom Is The Destiny Of Native Canadians
A poll conducted by Frontier Centre reveals there is a hunger out in Indian Country for more democracy, starting with an elected grand chief in each province. Frontier's Aboriginal policy fellow Don Sandberg looks at a poll conducted by the Frontier Centre which highlights strong support across all Prairie First Nations for elected grand chiefs. First Nations clearly want democratic leadership and an end to the system where only chiefs select important leaders.

Fwd: Fw: BUY 'MADE IN CANADA'

Makes sense

This is a worthy cause that we can all do -

support your brothers Andy Woodburn and Sieg Holle on Oct 25 in their run for council

-

Subject: BUY 'MADE IN CANADA'

Some help for you on your campaign to not buy from "made in China". Walmart's equate/everyday value brands are Made in Canada. One step better even.

BUY 'MADE IN CANADA'

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good Canadian.

Check this out
 . I can verify this because I was in Lowe's the other day for some reason and just for the fun of it I was looking at the hose attachments . They were all made in China . The next day I was in Home Hardware and just for the fun of it I checked the hose attachments  there. They were made in
Canada!  Start looking.

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job. So, after reading this e-mail, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!

She said:

My grandson likes Hershey's candy . I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more .

My favourite toothpaste, Colgate, is made in Mexico now. I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything .

This past weekend I was at Wal-Mart . I needed 60W light bulbs . I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value. "  I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get ready for this -in
Canada in a company in Ontario .Their Equate products are also made in Canada, and are very good.

So throw out the myth that you can not find products you use every day that are made right here .

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and
see what you can find that is made in Canada . The job you save may be your own or your neighbour's!(Your children & grandchildren, also)

If you accept this challenge, pass it on to others in your address book so we can all start buying Canadian, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies!

(We should have awakened a decade ago.)

Let's get with the program . Help our fellow Canadians keep their jobs and create more jobs here in Canada .

If President Obama insists on a "Made in America " policy, which is commendable of him, to support American workers, we should do likewise.  BUY CANADIAN!  Read the labels. Support Canadian jobs.

perserverance counts -food for thought

Three Unrelated Gems of Perseverance   Zig Ziglar

His name was Hal Wright, and he was the long-time publisher of the north Sierra newspaper who gained fame delivering papers to remote subscribers by tossing them out of his airplane. He died at age 96 after a short illness.

In the midst of his 50-year run as publisher and delivery service, he became a local and even a national celebrity, featured in the London Daily Mail, on CBS, and NBC's "The Today Show," as well as in Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Both houses of the state legislature awarded him proclamations. Along the way, Uncle Sam intervened, and Mr. Wright had to hire an attorney to force the Federal Aviation Administration to renew his pilot's license. His newspaper, which was a major source of information to his subscribers, featured his own aerial photographs and tidbits of news from around Sierra County, which has a population of 3,000. He and his wife worked as a team. She was nicknamed "Sweetie Pie," and together they worked to publish the biweekly. They both qualify as gems.

The second gem is about a devoted mother and a way too small football player. This mother of several children was committed to keeping her family together when her husband died. She worked at several jobs doing menial tasks, everything from cleaning offices to delivering coal. Eventually, she took the civil service exam and became the chief bookkeeper for the city treasurer. She used her strength and love to hold her family together and to raise her children.

One of the kids, though small, wanted to play football, but none of the colleges of any size offered him a scholarship. He played for a small college and excelled. Then his dream was to play in the NFL. He tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was his home team, but he was cut from the team in short order. Next, he found a job in construction and helped build some of the skyscrapers seen today in Pittsburgh, but he held onto his dream. He did not see himself as a victim of circumstances, but as a person that would succeed despite his size.

What he did was look at his options and decide he would start anywhere. He played in a little league that paid him $6 a game and was able to improve his already considerable skills. He continued to stay in contact with NFL teams in hopes that somehow he would be noticed. After seven months of trying, he received an invitation to try out for the Baltimore Colts -- and I suppose that all of you football fans know the rest of that story. Johnny Unitas was one of the true greats and has been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He was a real gem.

The third gem was a Texan who coined the phrase "Remember the Alamo!" Fortunately, he did a great deal more than that. Once on board a ship home from England, Gail Borden saw children die as a result of drinking contaminated milk. The experience impacted his mind forever. As a matter of fact, he dedicated the remainder of his life to finding a way for humans to safely drink milk.

His experiments with condensed milk failed, but then one day he saw how the Shakers in New York condensed their maple sugar in a vacuum-sealed pan. His success led to the safety of milk in a non-refrigerated world, began the modern dairy industry, and launched a multibillion dollar company. Yes, Gail Borden was a true gem. On his tombstone are encouraging words of perseverance: "I tried and failed. I tried again and succeeded."

These three gems, each in their own way, teach some of life's greatest lessons.

Smile -why we need to do service audits when we are having a bad day

Having a Bad Day?    At work,at city hall in your organization -do an audit to find out why

Well, then, consider this..............

In a hospital's Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11:00 a.m., regardless of their medical condition.

This puzzled the doctors and some even thought it had something to do with the supernatural. No one could solve the mystery as to why the deaths occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, so a worldwide team of experts was assembled to investigate the cause of the incidents.

The next Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11:00 a.m., all of the doctors and nurses nervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was all about. Some were holding wooden crossses, prayer books, and other holy objects to ward off the evil spirits.

Just when the clock struck 11:00, Pookie Johnson, the part-time Sunday sweeper, entered the ward and unplugged the life support system so he could use the vacuum cleaner.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Small things can make bad thing happen in a big way - all parts of your organization -big and small must properly work together.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Still Having a Bad Day?
The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska was $ 80,000.00. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers.

A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both.

Good intentions ,money do not necessarily make a difference

What defines people -the doers make it happen for the community

Not What We Say it is what we do that counts

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."1

You've no doubt heard about the three birds that are sitting on a telephone wire. Two of them decide to fly south. How many are left? One? No. It's three. This is because deciding to fly south isn't the same as doing it.

It's a bit like the difference between a want and a wish. I may want to lose some extra pounds and decide to do it, but don't do anything about it. This makes my desire and decision to lose weight nothing more than a wish.

In life it's not what I say, wish, or decide that counts. It's what I do. Action always needs to follow one's decision. Otherwise it is meaningless.

Have you been wanting to make amends with a friend whom you hurt or who has hurt you, or with whom you had a difference? Have you been meaning to visit a shut-in elderly person, make a phone call, send a card, or write a letter to a friend in need, buy flowers for your wife or special friend? Then don't delay. Do it today.

As Michael Josephson said, "Good intentions are simply not enough. Our character is defined and our lives are determined not by what we want, say or think, but by what we do.

FYI -Interesting facts on crime -prevention costs are more effective

Murder costs society -- about $17 million
AMES, Iowa (UPI) -- Murder has a human cost, of course, but U.S. sociologists say there's a financial cost as well -- about $17 million per murder.

Researchers at Iowa State University calculated the costs of five crimes -- murder, rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault and burglary -- in terms of the victim costs, criminal justice system costs, lost productivity estimates for both the victim and the criminal, and estimates on the public's resulting willingness to pay to prevent future violence, a university release says.

They calculated the societal cost of rape ($448,532), armed robbery ($335,733), aggravated assault ($145,379) and burglary ($41,288).

While research attaching cost estimates to heinous crimes may appear a bit cold in nature, one researcher says it's actually conducted with prevention in mind.

"This area of research has really been run with prevention researchers," Matt DeLisi, an ISU associate professor of sociology and director of the criminal justice program, said.

"That's because what they find is that even if a prevention program is very expensive -- and most of them are actually shockingly inexpensive -- they're still more cost effective than allowing these careers to unfold."

The study was published in the August 2010 edition of The Journal of Forensic Psychiatry & Psychology.

Happy Thangsgiving everyone

Happy Thanksgiving -Be happy and grateful everyone

1. An Attitude of Gratitude

"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."1

"A national news program conducted a study of fifty people who have lived over 100 years and still lead active, happy lives. . . . The researchers specifically looked for similarities in diet, exercise, lifestyle and habits that could contribute to their longevity and quality of life. What they found was amazing.

"Through an extensive interviewing process, the news team found that some of the participants in this study had what would be considered good diets. An equal number of people were not as healthy in their food choices. Exercise and other areas of lifestyle were also not found to be a common thread throughout the group.

"However, two things were overwhelmingly consistent among over 90 percent of those studied. What were these consistent traits? Nine out of ten said that throughout their entire lives they awoke every morning with an attitude of gratitude for one more day of life and that they saw each day as a precious gift. Secondly, nine out of ten stated that they felt life was too short to hold grudges or spend time complaining, and they forgave people quickly and refused to dwell on negative thoughts."2

Fwd: Fw: *****BLACKLISTED***** Dalton McGinty

Subject: FW: *****BLACKLISTED***** Dalton McGinty

lets remember this for the next election.  i will remind you for sure...............

Subject: Fwd: *****BLACKLISTED***** Dalton McGinty
Date: Fri, 1 Oct 2010 00:02:16 -0400

Subject: Fwd: *****BLACKLISTED***** Dalton McGinty

PLEASE READ, PASS ON (erase my e-mail before you 'forward' it please) AND REMEMBER NEXT ELECTION
  • Here is what our Premier has done for Ontario in the past seven years.
    Remember...he promised no tax increase in his campaign election message.
  • He has increased all the licensing fees from your car to your boat including fishing and hunting.
  • He introduced the temporary health care premium (surcharge) in 2004 (not called a tax) and some couples pay as much as $1,500.00 a year. And you are still paying it.
  • He doubled the price of most lottery tickets. (Not called a tax).
  • He has put an ECO tax on many containers such as paint cans and window washer fluid most and people still don't realize it until they see the bill - he kept that one real quiet.
  • He put a disposal tax on all electronics.
  • He put the disposal tax back on tires.
  • And now he has passed the HST tax - the largest tax on the province ever and the only other tax in Ontario that ever came close to this in the past was the health care premium.  He passed this bill even though 76% of the people in Ontario were against it. The HST will provide the Province with an additional THREE BILLION dollars a year.
  • He awarded the Provincial PST Tax Collectors a staggering $9 million severance package when their jobs were transferred to the Federal Government as HST Tax Collectors and not a day's work was lost.
  • Soon we will all have our S.M.A.R.T.. meters that we will have to pay rent on and will end up doing our laundry in the middle of the night.  We are also going to pay big time for air conditioning from now on because when we need it the most it will be in the prime time of usage.
  • Let us not forget the E-health scandal with 1.2 billion dollars wasted and paid out to friends and relatives.
What was Mr. McGuinty's answer to this? "Well, if the people of Ontario don't like it, they can show it in the next election."  Nice attitude.  This after he fired the CEO of E-health and then gave her a severance package of $300,000 - not bad for only being on the job for seven months.
  • And what about the SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS windmill power plant contract that he awarded to KOREA?  One would think there was some place in Canada or North America that could have built these.
  • He also closed the emergency rooms in Port Colborne and Fort Erie because there is not enough money. There have been two deaths since then because by the time they got to St. Catharine's it was too late.
    But he then awards a hospital in Toronto three million dollars - of course, that was in the riding where there just happens to be a by-election to replace George Smitherman!
  • He has taken the richest most prosperous province in Canada down to one of the poorest and has created a deficit of TWENTY SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS and he still has a year and a half to go.
And don't forget his nice little salary increase of $40,000.00 a year - millions of people in the province don't earn even half of that.
  • Have we forgotten all the MPP'S who also got a 14% increase? And now that they've had their increases he comes out with a new budget to freeze all provincial employees wages for two years - a bit late don't you think.
  • He increased the hydro tax by 10% in April of 2010.
  • He has increased the tax on liquor and wine by 10% in May of 2010.
 But, Mr. McGuinty will retire with his nice comfortable pension and all his benefits paid.

This needs to be passed around the province of Ontario and everybody needs to remember the way we got screwed by McGuinty and the Liberal party and not one Liberal MPP had enough guts to vote against any of the above.

Fwd: FW: Father and Daughter - POLITICAL COMMENTARY

Some wisdom or education for the political correct - a smile that can not be changed -worth a read and a smile . Be tolerant of others beliefs please

FATHER - / - DAUGHTER

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college.  Like so many othrs her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed.  Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.

The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.  He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew.  She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by.  All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA.  She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast.  She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0.  That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair!  I've worked really hard for my grades!  I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work!  Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree.  She played while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the conservative side of the fence."

If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between conservative and liberal or progressive or neocon I'm all ears.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.  (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended."
INFORMATION EVERYONE  SHOULD KNOW.........................
Blood  Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the  Tongue
I  will continue to forward this every time it comes  around!
If everyone can remember  something this simple, we could save some  folks..
Seriously..
STROKE  IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and  took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine  (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just  tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.
They got  her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she  appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself  the rest of the evening
Ingrid's husband called later  telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital  - (at 6:00 PM Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke  at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a  stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.  They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition  instead.
It only takes a minute to read  this...
A neurologist says that if he can get to a  stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the  effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was  getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the  patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is  tough.
RECOGNIZING A S TROKE
Thank God for the  sense to remember the '3' steps, STR.
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to  identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells  disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage  when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a  stroke.
STROKE:Remember  the 1st Three Letters....S.T.R.
        Four letters...S.T.R.O.
Now  doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three  simple questions:
S  *
Ask  the individual to SMILE.
T  *Ask  the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE  (Coherently)
(I.e. It is sunny out  today.)
R*Ask  him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If  he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call  emergency number
immediatelyand describe the symptoms to  the dispatcher.
New  Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick O*UT Your  Tongue
NOTE:  Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick'  out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one  side or the other
,that  is also an indication of a stroke.
A  cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to  10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be  saved.
I  have done my part. Will  you?
Fwd: Bill C-308 Defeated – But EI Tax Hikes Still Coming
---------- Forwarded message ----------
Subject: Bill C-308 Defeated – But EI Tax Hikes Still Coming
To: Sieg Holle <backtoeden.ontario@gmail.com>
Dear Supporter:
Earlier this week we asked you to join us in urging Liberal Leader
[1]Michael Ignatieff and his finance critic [2]Scott Brison to vote NO on
the Bloc Québécois' sponsored Bill C-308. We're happy to report the Bill was
voted down 147 to 124 in House of Commons yesterday afternoon.
Links:
1. mailto:Ignatieff.M@parl.gc.ca
2. mailto:Brison.S@parl.gc.ca
That bill, which sought to reduce qualification for EI to just 360 hours
worked, would have added upwards of $4-billion to the program and
potentially raised premiums as much as 24%. According to the [3]Globe and
Mail, Mr. Ignatieff changed his earlier position in support of the bill
under pressure from groups like the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
However, we're not out of the woods yet.
EI rates were already set to rise 15 ¢ (per $100 of earnings) January 1^st.
Earlier today [4]Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced the EI _increase_
would be "reduced" to 5 ¢ per $100 of earnings for employees and 7 ¢ per
$100 of earnings for employers.
The CTF takes the position that _any_ increase in taxes avoids the more
responsible route of a review and reform of EI that focuses on spending. As
long as the EI program continues as is, tax increases are simply deferred.
Current EI Fund shortfalls are added to the already ballooning federal
deficit. This is unacceptable.
We commend [5]Mr. Ignatieff for recognizing how irresponsible [6]Bill
C-308 was and changing his position. We also commend [7]Mr. Flaherty for
recognizing a massive increase in payroll taxes would not serve our economic
recovery. Now it's up to both leaders to reform EI.
7. mailto:Flaherty.J@parl.gc.ca
Last year the CTF wrote a [8]feature on EI reform in our official
publication [9]The Taxpayer. We will continue to press the same with
lawmakers this fall in advance on the scheduled tax hike on January 1^st.
We encourage you contact Messrs [10]Flaherty and [11]Ignatieff with a
similar message.
